I have no idea what the editorial standards are at the L.A. Times

Bill Plaschke column, August 1, 2007, page D1: "Imagine Ramon Martinez's surprise when he walked to the plate in the second inning and was surrounded by 50,000 people chanting, 'Bar-ry [bleeps], Bar-ry [bleeps]."

Article ("McCourt asks fans to be civil") by Bill Shaikin, August 1, 2007, page D4: "The 'Barry Sucks' chants are so ingrained in recent Dodger Stadium culture that Bonds claims to thrive on them.

"''Dodger Stadium is the best show I ever go to in all of my baseball,' Bonds said in 2005.

"'They say, "Barry sucks" louder than anybody out there. And you know what?... You've got to have some serious talent to have 53,000 people saying you suck.'"

(This is not the first example of this phenomenon.)
